Roger Conley Wood's profile

Hearst Corp. - iPad UX for Magazines

My time at Hearst was comprised of three main areas of interest: UX and interaction design for iPad titles of magazines; iPhone UX and interaction design for travel and hospitaility clients of the Hearst's in-house agency; Analytics and Trading Desk sofware platform architecture for Hearst's in-house agency.

The body of work in this project folder is for the aforementioned iPad component. This was my first effort at UX design optimized for tablets. My work was characterized by the use of native iPad capabilities previously unexploited, and my key contribution was to urge a departure from the traditional paper magazine layout merely applied to digital screen. Instead, we made use of swiping motion and pinches to bring photos and text to the forefront sepearaely, in a turn-based fashion. Separating text and photos allowed for use of the 'infinite gallery' sliding bar presentation at the bottom of the screen, with thumbnails of all pages inclusive of page numbers.
